Hello! Welcome to my brand new website. I’m so thrilled that you have found me and that you are ready to take the next step in achieving high-level wellness.
So… I guess we better start at the very beginning.. Who am I and why am I working in the world of wellness?
Well, several years ago now I suffered a complete (insert here a mind-boggling, life changing) burnout which resulted in sever and crippling anxiety. I was unable to function in the way I once had. I would drop my then two year old daughter off at child care, go to work for a few hours (I was working part-time) and head home to a dark house and then venture out to pick her up and head home again. I was still experiencing joy, however I was only comfortable at home. I couldn’t be out for too long before I felt the need to flee. The day came when I was unable to pick my daughter up from my mother in laws house. I was out the front, driving around the block in a panic. It was at this point that I knew I needed to do something drastic.
I spoke to my husband and went to see my GP who prescribed me with antidepressants and gave me a referral to a psychologist. I had childhood filled with lots of up and very many downs, so for me, it was indeed time I spoke to a professional about my past and how that was impacting my present.
You see, I was always on the go. My mother passed away from an incurable autoimmune disease (hence my obsession with anything autoimmune related) when I was 15 years old. What did I do? I went straight back to school. My dad past away when I was 18 years old. What did I do? Got stuck into University and partied hard with my friends. Then I moved to Melbourne to take over the corporate world. My aim was to make $100k by the time I was 25. So what did I do? I worked hard and played harder. I reached my goal, and I had a lot to show for it, but I didn’t know what true happiness was.
Then I met my husband. My sweet, balanced, caring and very mellow husband. What did I do? I dropped my bundle. This is when the first bout of anxiety crept in. I managed that and we married and had our daughter and now we’re back to where I started.
With the help of my psychologist, GP and naturopath I was able to get back on track. Don’t doubt for a minute that it wasn’t a long and tough journey, it was. Without it, I wouldn’t be here now.
Now I am feeling vibrant, full of energy and most importantly – I am at peace. I have stepped back from my career in Public Relations and Marketing and have returned to study. I now hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in Wellness from RMIT and am in the final stages of completing the Graduate Diploma. I am running a business where I am consulting with clients in the wellness space and I am working part –time in a TAFE in Learning and Wellbeing.
After reading this, my hope is that you know that whatever struggles you have, you are not alone. You have people who love and care about you and most importantly; you have the strength to turn things around.
All you need to do is put one foot in front of the other and work at it.
