Qualifications….. What to look for in the wellness industry.

So, its no surprise that the Wellness industry isn't regulated. This means you could be working with someone who says a lot, but doesn't have the research to back it up. Whether you are looking to engage someone for the wellbeing of your employees or for your personal wellbeing, please look into their skills and experience before saying 'YES'. Not only do I have a lived experience in the wellbeing space, I hold a Graduate Diploma in Wellness with Distinction from the Health / Science faculty of RMIT, Wellness Coaching Certificate from Wellness Coaching Australia and I am a 250hr certified Yoga Teacher. Let's talk about mental health.

What does anxiety look like for me?

It’s wonderful to see that the stigma attached to anxiety and mental health in general is slowly shifting. Having said this, it’s important to understand that there are so many different mental health challenges and that one persons experience isn’t going to be the same as the next.   I want to share with you my own experience with anxiety, to give you a little perspective.   I’m not an anxious person. Generally speaking, I don’t overthink things and I don’t get overwhelmed very easily. I can speak to a room full of people or present a workshop to complete strangers and I don’t feel nervous.   The simple tasks are the ones that get me. Supermarket shopping, shopping centres in general, the prospect of cancelling on friends of family, not...

Wellbeing at work

Workplace Wellbeing – What’s in a workshop?

The need for workplace wellbeing is on the rise. Why? 32% of Greater Geelong adults have anxiety or depression which is higher than the level for Victoria. 49% are classified as obese or pre-obese. Over half of Greater Geelong adults do not meet the physical activity guidelines. These statistics are from The City of Greater Geelong MUNICIPAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELLBEING PLAN 2018 - 2021 and I have no doubt that these would be reflected in your local area as well. I want to empower you and your employees to live a full and positive life and my workshops are a great way to kick start that process. Before I come into a workplace, these are the things I like to discuss with management...

What is WELLNESS?

So, WELLNESS has become quite the buzzword. I see it everywhere and in my opinion, it's been (on the most part) used incorrectly! Here is what WELLNESS means to me. CONNECTION. Wellness is connection.  Connection with yourself. Connection with your community/others. Connection with the environment. When you connect with yourself, you eat better, you move better and you take care of your emotions. You are positive and you are open to the amazing possibilities ahead of you. When you connect with others, you are putting the 'ego' aside and making sure that others are feeling good, that they have a support system and in turn, that makes you feel good. When you connect with your environment, even on a small scale, like connecting with your workspace or your home, you feel at ease, in...

Which will you feed?

I have had the pleasure of working with WorkSafe recently, speaking a several of their locations with some incredible speakers. In my presentation I have covered my personal wellness journey and the importance of choosing to be better, not bitter. To put this into perspective, I share a Cherokee legend called The Battle of the Wolves.     An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith....

What does 2019 look like for you?

Like me, I’m sure your social media feed has been filled with goals, resolutions and affirmations. On the most part, this can be a positive thing, a way to find some inspiration. For some people though, this can be the cause of overwhelm. Don’t worry if you’re feeling lost and not sure what 2019 should look like. Here’s how I set my goals… Reflect What where the best parts of the year before? This can cover personal and professional highlights. Feel How do you want to feel in 2019? Do you want to be filled with energy? Love? Peace? Once you know how you want to feel, you can work backwards and set goals to achieve that feeling. Dream What was missing from last year that you dream to have...

Six Weeks to Wellness

It has been the greatest gift for me to be able to hold space for my clients, to sit with their emotions and to guide them to self actualisation through my wellness coaching business. My clients are all so diverse, men, women, young and gracefully ageing! With this diversity I have seen one common theme unfold...

What the float?

What the float? I don’t know about you, but for me, this year is flying by and I feel like I’m going to look back and wonder what on earth I did with my spare time (apart from post graduate studies that is!!). I hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in Wellness from RMIT University and I am obsessed with anything that will get me closer to high-level wellness! So… every month I am going to try something new, something that I have never done before and that pushes me out of my comfort zone. Sensory depravation sounds like torture rather than pure relaxation doesn’t it? Well let me tell you this, it has been one of the most relaxing, recharging and all round beneficial experiences I have had!...
